Does a smoky eye ever look sultry and beautiful in a photo, but leave you looking tired when you try it yourself? You are not imagining it. A few small changes can help you get the depth and definition you love while keeping the look soft and flattering.
Step 1: Brighten the Eyes
I like to start by creating contrast. My eyes are quite dark, so I use Luma eye drops to make the whites look brighter before adding deeper shadow.

Step 2: Prep the Lids
Press translucent powder onto the lids to absorb excess oil and give your eye shadow a smoother base.

Step 3: Create an Even Base
Apply the Mature Beauty Liner across the middle of the lid. Use a blending brush to soften it toward the inner and outer corners, stopping around the crease. This gives your shadow an even base and helps the colour look rich and smooth.

Step 4: Set the Cream
Pat a matching shadow over the cream base to set it and even out the colour. Lightly blend the edges around the crease so there are no harsh lines.

Step 5: Blend Above the Crease
Use a lighter transition shade and a fluffy crease brush. Place the colour with your eyes open, looking straight into the mirror, then blend it softly. This helps the blend stay visible when your eyes are open.
Step 6: Soften the Lower Lash Line
Apply the liner along the lower lash line, then diffuse it inward with a small smudge brush. Dust a little shadow over the liner to set it while keeping the finish soft.

Step 7: Add Depth at the Lash Line
Apply a small amount of the darker liner to the outer part of the upper lash line and blend it inward. Build the colour gradually, then press matching shadow over it to set and soften the look.
Step 8: Finish with Lashes and Light
Tightline between the upper lashes with black liner. Add mascara to balance the deeper shadow. Once it is dry, use the lightest shadow at the inner corners and beneath the brow bone.
