Step 1: Understand Your Hair’s Natural Shape
• Let your hair air dry and observe its natural pattern
• Hair shape only changes temporarily with water or heat
Step 2: Identify Why Your Curls Fall
• If curls fall quickly: not enough heat, sections too large, or not enough cooling time
• If curls fall outside but look good indoors: humidity is the issue
• If hair feels silky but won’t hold a curl: hair is too soft or slippery
Hair types behave differently:
• Fine hair often has too much slip from heavy products
• Coarse hair may need more heat to fully set the curl
• Chemically treated hair absorbs moisture quickly and can fall in humidity
Step 3: Prep Hair Properly
• Use lighter conditioners on curl days choosing formulas labeled volume or daily
• Save heavy repair or moisture conditioners for non curling days
• Double shampoo on regular wash days
• Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove buildup
Step 4: Create Grip Before Curling
• Apply a lightweight mousse or foam to damp hair
• Fully dry the hair before curling
Step 5: Use the Right Section Size
• Match your section size to your curling iron size

Step 6: Let Curls Cool Completely
• Hold the curl briefly in your hand while it cools or clip curls into pin curls
• Avoid touching or brushing curls until they are completely cool
Step 7: Seal and Protect the Curl
• Always wait until hair is completely cool before applying hairspray
• Mist lightly and build hold in thin layers
• Use anti humidity sprays if you live in a humid climate
